Water-Based Detergents
The second step of double cleansing, or the only cleanser for your morning routine, has a specific task: to remove hydrophilic impurities (sweat residue, dead skin cells on the surface, traces of the previous oil cleanser) and bring the skin to a balanced pH, ready to absorb subsequent products.
The difference between a good water-based cleanser and a mediocre one is seen in the long run. A cleanser that is too aggressive (pH too high, aggressive surfactants like SLS) removes the natural hydrolipidic film, leaving the skin feeling "tight" after washing, a sensation that many mistake for "clean" but which indicates a compromised barrier.
The textures of water-based cleansers are: gel (for combination and oily skin, good lathering, effective cleansing), foam (very light, ideal for normal and sensitive skin), and mousse (a middle ground, pleasant application, easy rinsing)
